Police seek clarity on scientist’s death

Karwar: Perplexed by the post-mortem report submitted by medical experts in connection with the death of L. Mahalingam, Scientific Officer of Kaiga Atomic Power Station, Uttar Kannada district police asked the doctors to come out with unambiguous terms that lead to scientist’s death.

The post-mortem report submitted by the team of doctors reportedly indicated that the reason of the death could not be ascertained because the body of the scientist was in decomposed state.

The report was made available to the police five days ago. Babu Kolekar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Karwar, who is in charge of the investigation, has requested the employees of the Nuclear Power Corporation and members of the public to share with police any information about the cause of Mahalingam’s death.

The police are waiting for the DNA result from the forensic laboratory in Hyderabad.

The police said they would be able to come to a conclusion about he cause of the death only if the NPCL authorities and the employees cooperated with them.
