COOL COTTONS: Women having a look at the new designer cotton saris at the Co-optex showroom in Tiruchi on Tuesday. — TIRUCHI: A sales target of Rs. 200 crore has been set for the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society Limited, popularly known as Co-optex, for the current fiscal, the platinum jubilee year of the organisation. Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Co-optex Regional Manager, Thanjavur, C. Selvaraj, said the target set for Thanjavur region through its 17 showrooms functioning in Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts during the platinum jubilee year was Rs. 14.75 crore. Sale of handloom varieties in the Thanjavur region registered during the first quarter (April –June) of the current fiscal was around Rs. 1.04 crore, about Rs. 3 lakh more than the corresponding period of the previous year, he said. Co-optex had appointed its own designers for bringing out new designer cotton and silk saris on display at the Society’s showrooms with 20 per cent discount, Mr. Selvaraj said. In tune with customer tastes, the showrooms have silk, cotton and embroidered saris besides crepe silk sarees, silk–cotton mix sarees, churidhars and printed dress materials, he said.
