Joint Labour Commissioner suspended

Bangalore: The State Government, acting on a complaint, has suspended Joint Labour Commissioner H.S. Uthappa with immediate effect. According to an order of the Labour Department on Tuesday, S. Nirmala Kumari, working as a manager in the department, had on June 24 complained of sexual harassment by Mr. Uthappa. An in-house committee is to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within 15 days. The action to suspend him has been initiated under Section 10 of the Karnataka Civil Service Rules, 1957. During the period of suspension, he will be paid a subsistence allowance, a press release said.
