The healing touch
...thus goes the popular saying. May not be quite the thing to do in these modern days of using poisonous fertilisers and pesticides to grow apples. Organically grown apples are quite hard to come by in commercial quantities for mass consumption; the prices are understandably high. Consequently, the doctor is quite a busy healer, apple or no apple.
World Doctor’s Day is a very important day in the life of those who practise the profession as well as to the common man who cannot do without the services of the friendly, neighbourhood medicine man. Many at times, just a visit to the friendly family physician cures a major part of the ailment – most of the minor ones being of psychological in nature.
The family physician knows the history of the family tree – right from the roots to its foliage. Most often, just a phone call with a problem will elicit a prescription; the doctor knows the background and the history of the patient.
In modern times of stressful life and high pressure jobs, the doctor’s clinic and the local pharmacy have become regular haunts of most residents. Clinical laboratories and scanning centres are a permanent fixture in most neighbourhoods. These help the doctor in his diagnosis while dealing with any complaints.
Let us recognise the 24/7 services of these wonderful medical professionals who are duty bound to offer their expertise at any part of the day or night on the occasion of World Doctor’s Day which is celebrated in memory of Dr. B C Roy.
