HYDERABAD: Living in the posh Film Nagar and Jubilee Hills can be awful, say residents of this elite area. The wide roads with the ups and downs and the posh bungalows attract noisy film crews for shooting movies, shattering the calm in the area.

On Tuesday, residents of Film Nagar Road No.1 were forced to take a detour to reach their homes thanks to an action scene being canned, bang in the middle of the road, disrupting traffic. “Parked power trucks and a huge ‘shamiana’ on the side denied us free passage. This apart, the constant movement of the film crew and junior artistes is a nuisance that we can do without,” says M. Raghava Reddy, a retired police officer who lives there.

The film crew however claimed there was no problem as the shooting was taking place near a ‘dead end’. “It is just for a day that the residents have to take a detour,” said a crew member.

“It is an everyday affair. There is some or the other shooting happening in the inner roads of this area. The noise from the generators is deafening. They eat near our homes, wash utensils outside and create a lot of nuisance,” says Mr. Reddy.

With complete disregard to pollution levels, the film crew were seen burning tyres in regular intervals throughout the day. “The smoke is making our day miserable. I have kept my windows shut all day,” said another resident. ‘Extras’ were also heard passing lewd comments on women walking past. “Some guys standing near the unit were asking us if we would like to ‘act’ in the movie, using vulgar language,” alleged R. Kavitha, a domestic servant.

With owners of independent houses renting their homes to film crews for huge amounts, film shooting in the area has increased manifold says Narayana Murthy, a local.

“Those who live beside the house that has been leased have to put up with the noise of the generators, speakers blaring loud music and what not,” he laments.
