HYDERABAD: An eighth standard student was crushed to death by a van of Sri Nidhi International School on Gudimalkapur main road on Tuesday evening.

Lohit, 13, of Satyanarayananagar colony in Tappachabutra, was going to his friend’s house on a bicycle around 5.30 p.m. when the school van hit his cycle from behind. Lohit fell off his cycle and came under the left rear wheel of the van.

Death was instant, the Tappachabutra Inspector, J. Narsaiah, said.

Angry locals caught the van driver even as he tried to flee and beat him up black and blue before handing over to the police.

Two teachers and some students were on their way home in the school van when the accident took place.
