A happy lot: Some of the beneficiaries who received assistance under the State government’s welfare schemes from Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin in Chennai on Tuesday. CHENNAI: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin distributed welfare assistance to 351 women under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance and the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance schemes at a function here on Tuesday. Over Rs.30 lakh was provided under the schemes to the beneficiaries, belonging to the Thousands Light Assembly constituency. Speaking after distributing the aid, Mr. Stalin said 50,000 more television sets were to be distributed shortly to residents of various localities in the Chennai Corporation area. For other districts too
The free colour TV scheme would continue to be implemented in other districts too in a phased manner. All the other schemes that the government had promised were also being implemented in phases, he said. The Deputy Chief Minister also planted saplings at a Chennai Corporation Park. Mayor M. Subramanian and Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni participated in the function. The State government has so far distributed Rs.10.7 crore to nearly 6,800 under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance scheme and Rs.37.61 crore to 85,000 women under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance scheme.
