Hyderabad
Acquires 33 brand new computers Staff of QQSUDA yet to turn computer-savvy Hyderabad: It is perhaps the last of government departments to go hi-tech. No prizes for guessing. Of course, the dubious distinction goes to the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA). Automation might have come in other government offices a decade and more ago but it is only now that the QQSUDA has become computer-savvy. Its shoestring budget notwithstanding, it has managed to beat the meltdown and acquire 33 brand new computers. Wow! Better late than never. Well, the staff are yet to turn computer literate. They are still using the good old typewriters while learning to master the mouse and keyboard. The turnaround is not the result of a windfall but change of guard. R. Kishore Babu, the new administrator, is trying to do a mouth-to-mouth to revive this agency caught in the death throes. Soon after taking over, he has spent Rs. 14 lakh to acquire the computers. “They are necessary to ensure transparency and efficiency”, says Mr. Babu. Not just this. A separate website is also in the offing. One can just log on and know about the development authority. All this has really bestirred the QQSUDA. Limited budgetFor the last three years there has been practically no activity here. The agency simply used its limited budget to clear the pending bills of contractors to the tune of Rs. 20 crore. Now it has sent proposals for grant of Rs. 62 crore budget both plan and non-plan. It is proposed to take up CC roads and sewerage line works worth Rs. 1.5 crore in the next ten days. Another set of works costing Rs. 3 crore are also in the pipeline. “We want to commence the works before the civic poll code comes into force”, says Mr. Babu. Going commercialHe has also plans to develop a shopping-cum-office complex at Nandimuslaiguda in Rajendernagar. The Rs. 10 crore project will be executed on BOT basis. “I am doing my best to get additional funds”, he says and expects the Majlis to do its bit in putting pressure on the government.
