KOLKATA: The oft-postponed 34th National Games, to be held at three venues of Jharkhand, is scheduled from November 21 to December 5 this year. The president of the Jharkhand Olympic Association, R.K. Anand, asserted that the Games would be held on time. Anand and other two office-bearers of the JOA, who visited the Games venues at Jamshedpur on Monday, said that the Indian Olympic Association would consider no further postponement if the state failed to organise the Games this time. “Jharkhand will forfeit the opportunity to organise the Games if delayed further,” he said. “The Games were postponed five times in the past owing to reasons ranging from political instability, unfavourable weather and failure to complete the infrastructure in time. Now that 80 per cent of the construction work has been completed, there would not be any further delay,” he told The Hindu. The president of JOA hinted that two more disciplines might be shifted to Jamshedpur in addition to football (women), boxing, archery and weightlifting. “The Jamshedpur venues are ready and to cut cost we might shift two disciplines from Ranchi,” he said. Anand said ideally the JOA would like to host the State Games a month before the National Games to test the infrastructure and readiness.
