Panel seeks long-term plan for Sabarimala

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Petitions Committee of the Kerala Assembly stressed the need for a long-term plan for the development of Sabarimala due to the ever-increasing influx of pilgrims to the temple there.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, committee chairman V. Surendran Pillai said that over three crore pilgrims had visited the hill shrine during the 70-day pilgrim season last year. The numbers were going up by around 28 per cent each year. Coordinated efforts of all government departments were imperative to handling such a big influx of pilgrims. The panel, on Monday, tabled in the Assembly its suggestions.
