Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: A 60-year-old woman was hurt while resisting two youths who snatched her gold chain at Gowrivakkam near Tambaram on Monday.

Selaiyur police said Kuppammal is a resident of Kambaram Street in Santhoshapuram. She was walking along Velachery Main Road to her daughter Chandra’s house in Gowrivakkam, and two youths riding on a motorcycle came from behind. They pounced on her and grabbed her gold chain weighing about 5 sovereigns. However, Kuppammal resisted and did not let go of the chain, holding it with her left hand. However, the youths persisted and attacked her with a knife and managed to pull the chain from her. In the process, Kuppammal’s left hand thumb was severed.
