Packages for textile exporters planned

Union Minster of Textiles to lead a delegation to Japan

Tirupur: The Textile Ministry plans to come out with packages to help exporters in the sector to look more towards East in an attempt to help them diversify beyond the traditional Western market, according to Union Minister of Textiles Dayanidhi Maran.

“Wider market options will help the exporters to be in good form even while encountering market crisis in specific regions and thereby to remain competitive in the global market,” he told reporters here on Tuesday.

Mr.Maran hinted that the Ministry would come up with market access schemes to help the entrepreneurs penetrate niche segments in Eastern and South Eastern nations such as Japan, Cambodia and Australia, which had assured market potential.

Delegation

The Ministry had decided to take a textile delegation from the country to Japan on July 20, to kick-start the ‘looking to East’ initiative.

The delegation, to be led by Mr.Maran himself, would take part in a three-day international trade fair in that country to showcase their products.

Another major initiative, according to Mr.Maran, will be the promotion of common branding concept in the (textile) sector.

“A ‘Made in India’ brand will help the products from the country to attain better unit value realisation,” he pointed out.

Fibre policy

Regarding the ‘National Fibre Policy’ planned by the Ministry, he said that it would be put in place before year-end to boost exports as well as local demand.

“The policy will focus on requirement of fibres, rationalisation of duties, product development and pricing,” he said.
