Art of Living to be roped in to help colleges IUB to announce common academic calendar BANGALORE: The Inter University Board (IUB) meeting chaired by Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali in Belgaum on Tuesday has resolved to introduce moral education comprising personality development and yoga classes in all colleges across the State from the ensuing academic year. A decision was taken to rope in Sri Ravishankar Guruji’s Art of Living (AoL) to help the colleges handle moral education and yoga classes. Sri Ravishankar’s disciple Dinesh Ghodke is expected to co-ordinate with the universities in deploying resource persons to impart moral education and yoga classes in colleges during the academic year 2009-10. According to sources in Higher Education Department, the IUB meeting decided to introduce classes in financial literacy in colleges to help students secure exposure to equities, banking, savings and investments. Experts from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had been enlisted to handle classes on financial literacy to students. The IUB meeting held at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) campus in Belgaum on Tuesday was its 50th meeting. During the meeting, which was attended by Vice-Chancellors and Registrar’s of all the universities in the State, a decision was taken to have a uniform academic calendar for all the degree as well as postgraduate courses. All the degree colleges have been directed to start their classes between July 15 and 20, 2009, for the academic year 2009-10. The dates for examinations and for results will be announced later. From the coming academic year 2010-11, a common academic calendar will be announced even for postgraduate courses of all universities. The IUB decided to come up with a uniform academic calendar for all the universities in the State to facilitate students passing out of degree course from one university join a postgraduate programme offered by another university without losing time. The IUB decided to revise the syllabus of all its undergraduate and postgraduate courses once every four years and update the latest developments in the area. Admission policyThe IUB has also taken a decision to evolve a common admission policy for all degree colleges from the coming academic year 2010-11. The common admission policy will be on the lines of counselling currently being followed for admission to professional colleges. The common admission policy will help students submit one common application for joining an undergraduate programme in any college. The committee headed by VTU Vice-Chancellor H.P. Khincha and comprising among others Registrar K.V.A. Balaji and Commissioner of Collegiate Education Nagambika Devi to work out the modalities for the common admission policy and evolve a suitable system.
