Three more persons in quarantine

A Correspondent

Nedumbassery: One more person who arrived at the airport here with symptoms of Influenza A (H1N1) was admitted to the quarantine unit in the taluk hospital in Perumbavoor on Tuesday.

Official sources in Kochi said a 12-year-old boy who had arrived with his parents from the U.S on June 20 was referred to the hospital by Rafel Teddy, airport health officer. The boy did not show any flu symptoms during the mandatory check-up at the airport health cell on his arrival, but developed fever a week later, they added.

The patient, a native of North Paravoor, had sought treatment in a private hospital in Kochi but was referred to the Perumbavoor hospital on an instruction from Dr. Teddy. Samples of his swab serum were sent for detailed tests to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, Delhi.

The seven-year-old girl who had been kept in isolation in the hospital on suspected flu was released after being tested negative.

In Kozhikode

Staff Reporter writes from Kozhikode:

In Kozhikode, two persons, including a three-and-a-half-year-old child, have been admitted to General Hospital for suspected flu symptoms.

The child arrived at the Karipur airport from Qatar on Tuesday.

The other is a 67-year-old woman who arrived at the airport from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on Monday. Both have been quarantined in special wards of the hospital, Betty Jose, Deputy District Medical Officer, said.

The throat swabs of both have been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, New Delhi, for examination. The results will be known on Wednesday.

A 37-year-old woman who tested positive for Influenza A (H1N1) is being given treatment at the hospital. She had come from Abu Dhabi last Friday. The throat swab of the patient that had been sent for examination came back positive on Sunday, the doctors said.
