K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao HYDERABAD: Advisor to Government on Public Affairs and Rajya Sabha member, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, will head a new committee set up to monitor public safety and security of public in the State. The ‘Advisory Committee on Public Safety and Security’, as it will be called, will have the Director General of Police and Chief Secretary as co-chairmen, in their capacity as two highest ranking officers in the State. Ex-officio membersPrincipal Secretary - Home, Additional DGP - Intelligence, Director General of Fire Services and Chairman, AP State Council of Higher Education, will be ex-officio members. The primary function of the Advisory Committee will be to study issues relating to public safety and security and present its expert views to deal with them, in times of crisis. It will suggest measures to educate general public on the safeguards to be taken in view of threats to public safety, security and communal activities. The panel will also suggest measures to mitigate terrorism and prevent communalism, besides monitoring and ensuring coordination between various law enforcing agencies. It will recommend steps to set up Crisis Management Groups comprising experts in areas where public safety and security are at risk. No remunerationA Government Order issued on Tuesday said the committee was purely temporary, ad hoc and advisory in nature and would not possess any executive or financial powers. The Chairman, Co-Chairmen and Members of the Committee will function on an honorary basis and are not entitled to any remuneration or reimbursement of expenditure.
