Green energy cess?

BANGALORE: The Escoms have sought levying of a green cess of 5 paise per unit of power consumed by low tension industries and low tension commercial consumers. The funds raised by levying this cess would be used to create a corpus fund for supporting green energy initiatives such as renewable energy projects, Research and Development activities, bio-fuel projects and energy efficiency and energy conservation programmes.

The green energy cess had been mooted for the first time in the draft renewable energy policy which has been brought out by the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd.
