‘New minimum wages to stay’
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: Labour Minister B.N. Bacche Gowda has said that there was no going back on the increase in minimum wages announced by the Government in March for many sectors, including the garment industry.
He said that many industry owners, especially from the garment sector, had approached him stating that an increase of minimum wage by Rs. 28 was difficult in times of recession and they should be given time to implement it.
The Minister said that an inquiry had been ordered against Joint Labour Commissioner H.S. Uttappa, who is facing charges of sexual harassment.
He would be kept under suspension pending inquiry, he added.
