Wax coated apples seized

Tiruvannamalai: Commissioner of Tiruvannamalai Municipality R. Sekar conducted surprise raids at fruit shops on Monday and seized about 400 kg of apples coated with wax.

Wax coating, which is sometimes given to apples for a gleaming look, affects health, Mr. Sekar said. “That’s why we conducted the raids at juice shops to ascertain the quality of fruits and we even seize mangoes ripened using calcium carbide stones,” he said.
