27 cargo autos impounded for various lapses

KARUR: Regional Transport Officer G. Ramasamy impounded a total of 27 cargo autos here on charges of motor tax, permit and road tax evasion and levied a fine of Rs.1.5 lakh for the offences.
Sources said that there were a total of 3,523 such cargo autos plying in the district and the due date for paying the annual road tax and motor tax amounting to Rs.2,400 ended on May 14. It was estimated that around 150 cargo autos were plying without paying any fee and the authorities decided to impound and levy fine.,
Accordingly, the RTO and his team of Motor Vehicle Inspectors, K. Kumaravel, P. Muruganandam and N. R. Shanmuga Kumar, intercepted cargo autos and conducted checks for payment of annual tax.
The officials impounded a total of 27 such errant autos and brought them to the Regional Transport Office on the Dindigul Highway.
The RTO warned auto owners who had not paid the tax to remit it immediately as the action would continue.
