Training with stipend for unemployed youth in all 176 taluks of the State Basic infrastructure and subsidies for district-level entrepreneurs
Launch: Minister for Textiles Gulihatti Shekar inaugurating the taluk-level job fair programme in Hosadurga taluk in Chitradurga district on Tuesday. Hosadurga (Chitradurga district): Minister for Textiles Gulihatti Shekar here on Tuesday said that 10,800 people in the State had undergone training under the new textile policy Suvarna Vastra Neethi, and that 6,000 people had gained employment in various textile industries. He was speaking after inaugurating the taluk-level job fair programme jointly organised by the Department of Handloom and Textiles, the Karnataka Powerloom Development Board and various private textile firms. Mr. Shekhar said that this year his Ministry had urged private firms to train 1 lakh people. The Government planned to offer such training for unemployed youth in all 176 taluks of the State, he said. Training in operating the latest machines was under way, and training in powerlooms was in the pipeline, he added. During the training, a stipend of Rs. 2,000 was being offered, a first in the State, he said. Employment provider“We want to provide alternative sources of employment to rural youths who are mainly dependent on agriculture,he said. Stating that after agriculture, the textile sector was the major employment provider, the Minister said that people without higher education could also make a decent living in the industry. Over 25,000 people from Hosadurga have gained employment the textile industry in Bangalore, Mr. Shekar said. Mr. Shekhar said that the Government was convincing entrepreneurs to set up industries outside Bangalore, a move which would not only help decongest Bangalore but also provide job opportunities at the district level. “The Government is ready to offer basic facilities and subsidies to entrepreneurs if they set up industries outside Bangalore,” he said. Siddakumar, managing director of the Handloom and Textiles Department, and deputy director S. Prakash were present.
