NEUROLOGY the study and treatment of Brain, spinal cord, Nerves & muscle diseases was the faculty available only in the cities few years ago. Patients had to take the strain of either going to the cities or to get the available non scientific and non neurological treatment. But today scene has changed. Thalakulam, a small village just 1km from Monday market, is probably the only one centre situated in a village, having a qualified fully – Eg. Stoke ie cerebrovascular Disease in which the blood vessels in the Brain is affected by either clotting and blockage or ruptue and leakage of blood into the brain causing paralysis of the opposite side of the body and even speech will be totally lost. Next will be Epilepsy – which is a social stigma even today and lot of ignorant views prevail in Public – for eg. giving an iron object in the hands of the patient having fits is not only unscientific but also affects the person, as a sharp weapon in the hands of a fits patient will damage his body by unexpected injuries. With proper diagnosis and treatment epilepsy can be controlled. With the present days heavy traffic, Road Traffic accidents and the damage it causes can’t be understimated. The main cause of death in a Road Traffic accident is Head Injury and damage to the Brain. Though a severe damage at the spot may not give time to act, lot of people die of lack of immediate medical care to a Head injury person, as still, many individuals can be saved and brought to a useful level of life, if proper care is given in proper time, by the proper hands. In this we have to thank the Tamil Nadu Government free ambulance service 108 which does a great job. These are only few examples of the vast Neurological disorders – In our centre, a Neuro lab with the modern equipments help to arrive at a diagnosis and Neuroconsultation with out a consulting fee, so as to help even the poorest patient, makes everybody to avail the services. Neuro rehabilitation of the affected, with qualified staff and sophisticated equipments give good results. Today creating awareness is the only way to get a success in Neurological Diseases. Dr. P.
