Stanes School emerges winner in Limca Quiz

Best brains: The Coimbatore City Finals of Limca Book of Records Quiz held at Perks Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore on Tuesday. –

Coimbatore: Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School emerged winner at the Coimbatore City Finals of ‘Limca Book of Records Quiz, 2009’ held at Perks Matriculation Higher Secondary School here on Tuesday.

The school will now compete with ‘City Winners’ from 75 cities in the semi final round. Kendriya Vidyalaya became second.

Ammer Shahul, DIG of Police, and Ameer Shahul, Region Head South, Public Affairs and Communications, Hindustan Coco-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, said that LBR provided them with an opportunity to learn about the achievements of Indians and to interact with young minds.

This year they are organising the contest in over 3,000 schools across 75 cities.

Over 200 students from 36 schools from Standard VIII to Plus-Two participated in the event with six schools reaching the city finals. This year the quiz is being organised at an even larger scale following the huge success of LBR-2008.

The quiz, conducted to promote knowledge and awareness amongt the young minds of the country, has three stages – inter-school level, semi finals and national finals. The competitions began in April and will continue till December when the finals will be held at New Delhi.

The top ten teams with a minimum of two teams from each of the four zones from the semi final round will compete against each other in the national final. The quiz master will be Derek O’Brien.

Record holders from Coimbatore, K. Pradeep Kumar and C.P. Ajith Kumar were present.
