Striking performance: Collector T. Soundiah felicitating special children of various schools in Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: Students of four special schools in Tiruchi were part of the Tamil Nadu teams that won medals in basketball and volleyball at the National-level Special Olympics held at Puducherry recently. Teams from 22 States were segregated into three groups based on their skills and Tamil Nadu sides featured in Group II. The Tamil Nadu team comprised students from special schools in various districts, including Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Viridhunagar, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Vellore. From Tiruchi, special children of Vidivelli, Jananam, Holy Cross Blossom and Arivalayam participated. Santhi, Praveena, Dallas, Nishanthini and Pattu Sudha (all students Vidivelli) helped the State team win volleyball gold medal in the girls’ section. Sundarambal and Kaleeswari, both students of Vidivelli, were part of the Tamil Nadu girls’ basketball team that won silver. Murugesan and Periyakaruppan (both students of Vidivelli), Hari (Arivalayam) and Ruban Charles (Holy Cross Blossom) were part of the silver medal winning boys’ basketball team. Meanwhile, Kuralarasan (Vidivelli), Karthik (Arivalayam) and Sivagurunathan (Jananam) figured in the Tamil Nadu volleyball team that won bronze medal. Collector T. Soundiah, the District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer R. Shyamala and staff members of the schools commended the children’s performance.
