Sibal inducted into Lindau Senate
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal has been inducted into the Honorary Senate of the Foundation Lindau Nobel Prize Winners Meetings.
The induction was held at Lake Constance at the opening ceremony of the 59th Lindau meeting of Nobel laureates on Sunday, along with that of Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission. The laudation described Mr. Sibal as an “ardent advocate for technology interventions, especially in the field of education and health.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sibal said existing disparities needed to abate and not exacerbate in the 21st century. “We need to demolish existing boundaries through fresh scientific thinking and new technology interventions. The solutions, however, must be both accessible and affordable,” the minister said.
Mr. Sibal exhorted scientists, as global citizens, to rise above narrow, and divisive considerations. Stating that science and technology was value neutral, he said scientific solutions and technological breakthroughs would help emerge successful in our struggle for survival.
