BANGALORE: The city on Monday saw two attempts by burglars to take away money and valuables from the branches of two nationalised banks. The first was the State Bank of Mysore’s Yeshwantapur branch off Tumkur Road. The branch manager found articles in the bank scattered soon after it was opened in the morning. The bank was closed on Sunday. Some persons had entered the branch by breaking open the ventilator. The burglars searched the cupboards and unsuccessfully tried to enter the strong room. The police said the number of persons who entered the bank could not be known as the bank did not have closed circuit TV cameras. The police suspect that the burglars entered the bank soon after it was closed on Saturday. A similar attempt was reported at the Canara Bank’s branch in Varthur. The burglars had broken the grills of a window but there too they were unsuccessful. That branch did not have CCTV either, the police said. SuicidesA 45-year-old man committed suicide following alleged harassment by a bank for money his friend had borrowed. The Sampegehalli police said Venkatesh (45) hanged himself in his house in Agrahara Layout Monday morning. His property documents were forged and used by his friend to get a loan of Rs. 8.4 lakh but he failed to repay the loan amount. The bank was pressuring Venkatesh to pay the loan amount. The Sampegehalli police are searching for Venkatesh’s friend. In another incident, Shruti (28) of Cholarapalya committed suicide in her house on Sunday night. The Magadi Road police said Shruti’s husband Yeshwant found his wife hanging when he returned home. He immediately took his wife to the nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. Rajesh (25) of V.S. Garden died of burns in J.J. Nagar police station limits on Sunday. The police said Rajesh was brought to the hospital following burst of the kerosene stove in his house in the morning. BurglaryCash and jewellery in all about Rs. 1.5 lakh were stolen from the house of Indira Agarwal in Maheshwari Nagar in Peenya police station limits on Sunday night. The police said the incident occurred when Agarwal went to her relative’s house on Sunday. She returned home in the morning and then filed a complaint.
