Colour TVs distributed

TIRUCHI: Transport Minister K.N. Nehru distributed free colour television sets to a total of 2,891 families of Vadugapatti and Puthanatham panchayats in Manapparai block recently.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nehru said free gas-stoves with connection had been distributed to six lakh families across the State. Referring to a plea made on the occasion, he said instructions had been given to operate a new bus service from Puthanatham to Tiruchi.

Collector T. Soundiah said free colour television sets had been provided to over two lakh families in the district. The television sets would be distributed to over one lakh families during the current year, he said adding that steps had been taken to provide television sets to 49,000 families in the first phase.

Local body representatives and officials participated, an official press release here said.
