Walkout over N.C. Hills violence

Sushanta Talukdar

GUWAHATI: Asom Gana Parishad , Bharatiya Janata Party and Assam United Democratic Front staged a walkout from the Assam Assembly on Monday. They were protesting against Speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai for not immediately considering the admissibility of the adjournment motion brought by them (the parties) to discuss the situation in the troubled North Cachar Hills district.

As soon as the Speaker announced that the admissibility of their motion would be considered only on July 1, the Opposition members became agitated and rushed out to the well of the House, shouting slogans insisting that the motion be considered immediately. After protesting for some time, the members of the three opposition parties staged a walkout.
