One soldier killed in LoC firing
Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR: In what is seen as a violation of ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC), one soldier was killed when Indian troops came under fire from across the border in Poonch sector on Sunday night.
Reports said that the firing took place from across the LoC towards PK Post in the Ajote area, just few meters away from the Cross-LoC trade centre at Rangar.
Sources told The Hindu that Mohinder Singh, a jawan of the 8th Kamoun regiment, received bullet injuries on the head and he died later.
Sources in the Army said the firing started around 10.15 p.m. on Sunday and lasted for about 15 minutes. The jawan was headed for his bunker when he received the bullet injury. Another jawan escaped unhurt. The sources maintained that militants trying to cross the border opened fire, as cover was provided by the Pakistani troops.
