JKC to focus on banking, insurance sectors

Workshop on strengthening of knowledge centres held


Sensitisation classes to begin from July 10

Resolution passed to reduce existing fee


GUNTUR: The Jawahar Knowledge Centres (JKC), which had successfully placed scores of students in IT/ITES sectors, will now focus on Insurance, Banking and also coach students for competitive examinations, in view of the global recession.

In addition to communication skills, students would have the option of taking a 40-day certificate course in Tally and BULAC, participants at the workshop on “Effective implementation and monitoring of JKC,’ resolved on Monday. Principals, nodal coordinators of various JKCs, JKC coordinator at Government Women’s College, L. Sasibala, and principal N. Geetanjali were present.

The workshop also passed a resolution to conduct sensitisation classes beginning from July 10 at all the 14 nodal JKC centres in the district.

A resolution to reduce the existing fee of Rs.750 per student and consider exemption for SC/ST students was also passed. Addressing the participants, Regional Joint Director of Higher Education, I.K.V Prasad urged the lecturers to put extra effort and train the students in soft skills.

He said that the State Government had accorded top priority to JKCs and was committed to strengthening them.

Coordinator of JKC, L. Sasibala said that the performance of the students in the year 2008-2009 was commendable even in the times of global recession. Eight students were selected by the Reddy’s Laboratories and many were picked by various insurance companies. An astounding number of students (1,500) divided into 34 batches in 14 nodal centres were trained during 2008-2009.

Narrating several success stories of students who have been trained in JKCs and secured placements in various firms, she complimented the efforts of the trainers and urged them to work harder this year too.
