Supreme Court dismisses SLP against High Court’s interim order
J. Venkatesan
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a special leave petition against an interim order of the Madras High Court allowing the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) to clear shrubs and grass on lands meant for an Industrial Park in Thervoy Kandigal village in Tiruvallur district.
A vacation Bench of Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Ashok Ganguly dismissed the SLP filed by Thervoy Gramam Makkal Munnetra Nala Sangam challenging the order dated May 27. Attorney General G.E. Vahanvati and State Additional Advocate General P.Wilson represented Tamil Nadu and SIPCOT respectively. On a writ petition from the Sangam, the High Court by an interim order on May 12 restrained the SIPCOT from felling trees, cutting shrubs and clearing the forest land. However, on May 27, the order was modified and SIPCOT was permitted to clear the shrubs and grass. The present SLP is directed against this order.
