“Make time-bound road map to execute points for workers’ safety” NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat on Monday asked the Directorate-General of Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes (DGFASLI) to work out an action plan to operationalise the national policy on safety, health and environment at workplace. He advised DGFASLI to act on a time-bound road map to implement the various decisions taken for enhanced safety measures for the workers during the Year of Industrial Safety and Health (2008-09). Participating in a curtain-down ceremony of the year here, he said: “Our policies and programmes must aim at sustainable development wherein the need for competitiveness as well as the need to safeguard the interests of work force in terms of safety, health and welfare is accorded high importance.” The national occupational safety and health policy along with the existing environmental policy would go a long way in improving the status of occupational safety, health and environment in the country, he said. Central Labour and Employment Secretary Sudha Pillai said comprehensive amendments to the Factories Act, 1948, proposed by the department were in the final stage of approval.
