VIJAYAWADA: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Krishna Telecom has increased the capacity of broadband connectivity in the district by 22,000 during 2009-10 with the total capacity reaching 50,000. BSNL Krishna Telecom General Manager John Chrisostom says there is a lot of encouragement to rural users of broadband, even as they have made efforts to extend the service across 800 villages. In these places, registration, security deposit and installation charges are not being collected from broadband applicants so as to give greater encouragement. Video chattingFurther to stimulate rural usage, broadband is being offered to rural users at Rs. 99 for 400 Mb and Rs. 150 for 1 GB. Encouragement is also given to the setting up of rural broadband kiosks, where users can access the services like browsing, scanning, printing, video chatting, telemedicine and so on. All these will be offered at just Rs. 5 an hour. A subsidy of Rs. 4,500 is being offered for purchase of equipment for rural broadband kiosks so as to boost the use of this service. Vennela PlusMr. Chrisostom says that 20 per cent rebate is being offered on rentals and usage charges for working and retired employees. Rebates are also being given to users, who have subscribed for annual plans. The BSNL has introduced a novel prepaid mobile service called Vennela Plus under which the cost of the SIM card is just Rs. 150 with a validity of three years. Free talk timeFree talk time worth Rs. 50 will be given, besides 250 free SMS per month. Under this service, calls can be made at just 30 paise a minute for five numbers of family members and friends. In the State, calls to the BSNL network during the “happy hours” from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. will cost 20 paise a minute. Existing users can migrate to the Vennela service through the migration voucher of Rs. 199. Recharge is available with TOP UP cards worth Rs. 100 every three months.
