Woman tricks farmer posing as official

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: A woman is reported to have left a gullible farmer of Kachkanti village in Adilabad mandal poorer by about Rs. 30,000 as she robbed him of his savings on Saturday night. Posing as an official of the Women and Child Welfare department, the con woman gained confidence of one of the five daughters of the farmer whom she met in Adilabad town on the evening of June 27. The trickster accompanied the latter to Kachkanti and stayed with the family for the night. She had told the farmer that the Government had come up with a scheme to give a grant of Rs. 80,000 per girl child to curb female foeticide. The farmer was enticed by such an offer because he has five daughters.

Early on Sunday, the trickster returned to Adilabad with the farmer’s daughter in tow. On the pretext of fetching the application forms from the post office, she made good her escape while the girl waited for over three hours for her to return. When reality dawned upon the family, the farmer checked the safe and found cash and valuables missing.
