The Guru Pranam Utsav will be conducted on September 5 in Kolkata and the Debadhara annual dance festival in Bhubaneswar on October 30 and 31.

The festivals are being held in various venues across the country and round the year to carry forward the legacy of late Debaprasad Das, one of the four founder fathers of the classical dance form of Odissi, he explained.

For his notable contribution to Odissi dance, Cuttack-based Guru Raghunath Dutta was honoured with the Debaprasad Award for 2009 during the inaugural evening.

Bengaluru-based Kuchipudi dance exponent Vyjayanti Kashi and media personality Adyasha Satapathy jointly presented the award that carries a memento, a citation and a cash award of Rs.10, 000.

The three-day festival featured performances by Kashi and her daughter-disciple Prateekshya; Kathak Guru Rajendra Gangani and his disciple Swati Sinha from New Delhi besides Odissi dancers Rajashri Praharaj, Gayatri Ranbir and Debangana Mishra (all from Bhubaneswar); Kaori Naka (Japan), Jyoti Rout (USA), Arpita Venkatesh (Kolkata), Bagmishree (Rourkela) and Geeta Mahalik (New Delhi).

Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi and the Department of Culture of Government of Karnataka sponsored the Kathak and Kuchipudi artistes respectively.
