KOCHI: District Collector M. Beena has given instructions to various agencies to take strict action against the pollution of river Periyar in the Aluva region. The police, Kerala Water Authority, Pollution Control Board, and the Aluva municipality have been asked to take necessary action in this regard. The decision came at a meeting convened at the district collectorate on Monday in keeping with a direction of the State Human Rights Commission against the pollution of the Periyar. The Collector asked the police to ensure that garbage was not dumped in the river and along its side. Besides, the police have been instructed to extend assistance to the Aluva municipality to prevent dumping of abattoir waste within its limits.
