Poetry will be in full flow at the fest

The book is dedicated to poets who write in English

About 50 poets confirmed their participation


GUNTUR: About 400 poems written by 200 poets from all over the world was the response to a call given by Department of English, Jagarlamudi Kuppuswamy Choudary College, hosting the Second National Poetry Fest: 2009 on Thursday. The college short-listed 140 poets and 276 poems and brought them in the form of a book entitled “Posy of Poesy”. The book will be released on the day of the fest.

“The book is dedicated to all the poets who write in English. Free accommodation, local hospitality and a copy of A Poesy of Poesy is given to all poets whose poems are short-listed.

We feel that this is a small honour to the poets. We wish that in course of time poetry will regain its honour and glory,” said P. Nagasusheela and P. Gopichand coordinating the event.

Prominent poets like Rati Saxena, Sahitya Academi award winner, Dwarakanath Kabbadi, receipent of Excellence in World Poetry award, Durlab Singh from USA, Mohammad Fakruddin founder president of Haiku Society of India, recipient of the International man of the Year, Meizo Chiresha from Kenya, executive producer and creative director of African Drums Book and Poetry Tour Initiative, Frank Joussen from Germany, Ambika Ananth, and Editor, Muse India, are likely to attend.

Others like Mukesh Williams, professor at Keio University -- SFc and Soka University Japan, Mani Rao internationally reputed poet from Hong Kong, J.B. Morase, winner of Central Sahitya Akademi Award and Mithila Ratne Puraskar, Leena Mistry from US and Philomina Samfransisco from Goa, Walter Keyombe from Kenya, a leading International Kenyan poet, Snehasudha Kulkarni, founder of Sahitya Sangha from Pune a well known Marathi publisher, novelist and poet and many other prominent poets of international repute had sent their poems.

About 50 poets had so far confirmed their participation in the festival. “There is no money in poetry and there is no poetry in money. No publisher or organisation is willing to support poetry. We are grateful to J. Nareddernath, secretary and correspondent and K. Basavapunnaiah, president, Nagarjuna Education Society in encouraging us to go forward with the poetry festival,” Ms. Nagasusheela added.
