A NASTY FALL: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who inaugurated the ‘Frozen Memories 2009’, a photo exhibition by Photojournalist’s Association of Bangalore in Bangalore on Monday, laughs at a picture showing himself. BANGALORE: From communal clashes to gourmet desserts, candid shots of politicians to sleeping stray dogs, Bangalore’s photojournalists have captured the past year in a series of expressive frames. The exhibition, Frozen Memories ’09, was inaugurated by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday at a function with Information Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and actor Tara as chief guests. Each of them was taken on a guided tour and explained the context and history of each photograph by the contributors. K. Gopinathan, Chief Photographer, The Hindu, who is a member Photojournalists Association of Bangalore which organised the event, said the idea behind the exhibition was to provide a platform for photojournalists to assess their work in comparison with others “so that photojournalists who participate know where they stand”. Almost 100 journalists have contributed towards the collection of over 200 photographs. Mohammad Asad, President, Photojournalists Association of Bangalore, said the association had been organising photo exhibitions for five years and that this year’s was the biggest in terms of the number of contributors and pictures. Mr. Gopinathan said some 99 per cent of the photographs on display had been used in news reports. The selection of photographs emphasise different aspects of being a photojournalist, whether it was being at the right place at the right time — or at the right time in the wrong place — freezing the moment. The highlights of the exhibit are a series of typical as well as offbeat photographs of political leaders as well as glimpses of Bangalore’s changing urbanscape. The exhibition is on till July 1 at the Chitrakala Parishath from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
