Four for chess national

MANGALORE: Four young chess talents of Karnataka, three of them from Mangalore, will figure in 61-member contingent taking part in the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2009 to be held in New Delhi from August 2 to 9.

M.S. Gururaj, president of the the city-based South Kanara District Chess Association said Manasa K. of Canara College, Mangalore, is playing in the Under-18 girls category as a host entry as she was the second runner up in the national U-17 Girls Chess Championship 2008. Nihal Manjunath of Lourdes Central School Mangalore and Vanessa D’ Souza of St. Agnes Girls’ High School Mangalore have been selected to participate in the Uunder-13 Boys and Girls as Donor Entries. Girish A. Kaushik of Mysore got direct seeded entry by virtue of having won gold medal in the previous Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Tehran, Iran, in 2008 in the Under-12 age group.
