KOCHI: The alleged presence of Maoists in the Pooyamkutty forest and the police hunt that followed were stage-managed with a view to thwarting the opposition to the Pooyamkutty hydroelectric project, environmentalist John Peruvanthanam has alleged. Mr. Peruvanthanam, convenor of the Save Pooyamkutty Council, which has led an agitation against locating a power project in the midst of the dense forest, said there was a move to revive the proposed project. The authorities had cooked up the Maoist infiltration story so that the police could bar the entry of people who opposed the project, he said.
