Proud moment: Bheema Cements Limited director S. Kishore Chandra declaring international archers V. Jyothi Surekha and G. Anand Sankar as company’s brand ambassadors in Vijayawada on Sunday. VIJAYAWADA: It was a day to remember for the archery fraternity of Krishna District as two of its up and coming stars were roped in by Nalgonda-based Bheema Cements as its brand ambassadors at the dealers meet here on Sunday. Company director S. Kishore Chandra said that the company was proud to be associated with the budding archers, who have brought glory to the nation by winning medals in the international events. “We are granting a corporate sponsorship Rs. 3 lakhs to Anand Sankar and Rs. 1.5 lakhs to Jyothi Surekha. This aid will help them under go special training and also attend international events to enable them to enhance their performance,’ he added. Jyothi Surekha hogged the limelight as a prodigy swimmer by crossing the river Krishna thrice (4.5 kilometres) to enter the Limca Book of World Records. She won more than 50 medals in swimming during 2004 and 2007. Later, Surekha joined archery under the tutelage of Ch. Satyanarayana of Volga Archery Academy and become the National u-13 champion in 2007. In 2009, Surekha represented the country in the Mexican Grand Prix at Mexico and won five medals – one gold, two silver and two bronze. Incidentally, she also won State and Central governments awards for her achievements in the field of sports. Jagayyapet-born Anand Sankar won two silver and a bronze in the under-13 category introduced for the first time by the World Archery Federation (FITA) at Mexico.
