Kotdwar (Garhwal): Thousands of fish were found dead in the Khoh river in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district, which forest officials suspect to be a case of poisoning. Thousands of dead fish were found floating on Saturday on the surface of the river within a stretch of 10 kilometres in the river, which is the main source of water in the foothills of Garhwal. InvestigationsThe forest officials said that during investigations an empty bottle of pesticide was recovered near the Tod Gadhera rivulets at Kotdwar near the spot. Divisional Forest Officer Nishant Varma said probably this poison was used to kill the fish. A sample of the river water along with dead fish had been sent to the fisheries department of Pant Nagar University for examination, the officials said. As the area is an elephant corridor between the Rajaji National Park and the Corbett National park, those coming near the river were being chased away by firing in the air. SellersSub-divisional magistrate (Kotdwar) G.C. Gunwant said they have raided the fish sellers in the town. They have also asked people not to eat these fish. The water supply authorities have also been informed in this regard. — PTI
