Police personnel attacked

COIMBATORE: An Inspector and four constables of the Puliyampatti police station sustained injuries late on Saturday night at Perianaickenur near Avanashi when a group allegedly attacked them with sticks and stones while they were executing a non-bailable warrant issued by a court against an accused in a prohibition case.

According to Inspector K. Thangavel, a group of six persons gathered outside the house when the accused was about to get into a police jeep.

A complaint lodged by Mr. Thangavel said he and the constables were pelted with stones, and the accused managed to escape. Mr. Thangavel was first taken to the Government Hospital at Avanashi and then referred to a private hospital. The police said a hunt was on for Prabhu and cases were registered against him over this incident. — Special Correspondent
