HYDERABAD: The State government has taken up an ambitious and comprehensive plan to make Andhra Pradesh a slum-free State in the next five years, according to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Reviewing the progress of works under various urban development schemes with Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and Principal Secretaries - C.V.S.K. Sharma and Puspha Subramanyam - on Sunday, Dr. Reddy wanted infrastructural development works to facilitate a holistic growth of urban areas. The government would pay special attention on implementation of Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP). “Our objective is to make Andhra Pradesh a slum-free state by 2014,” he said and added that apart from IHSDP, government would access funds from Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) and Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP). Dr. Reddy wanted officials to focus on development of Greater Hyderabad as a futuristic metropolitan city with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) ensuring planned growth of civic and infrastructure facilities in Hyderabad agglomeration area. He directed officials to expedite the Outer Ring Road works. Metro railA decision on Hyderabad Metro Rail Project proposed to ease traffic congestion in Hyderabad city will be taken soon, he remarked. He wanted the ambitious “Hussain Sagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project” to be taken up immediately. A perspective plan was prepared for tapping 10 tmcft of Godavari water from Pranahita – Chevella. “Tenders on EPC contract system were invited and the works had been allotted to the prospective agencies. The project is being taken in three packages. Agreements have concluded and works commenced,” the officials told Dr. Reddy.
