Forward Bloc criticises Sibal’s plans

K.V. Prasad

NEW DELHI: The All India Forward Bloc on Saturday criticised the unilateral announcement by Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal regarding educational reforms, and demanded an immediate meeting of State Education Ministers to discuss them .

Terming the Minister’s announcement as a “clear violation of the federal character” of the Indian Constitution, the party said the Centre should have consulted the State Education Ministers before making such an announcement since education is a concurrent subject.

“The new announcement may be part of the Government’s move to put education in the central list, which has far-reaching implications,” the party national secretary G. Devarajan said.

He said broad-based discussions at an academic level with all concerned was necessary before embarking on reforms.
