City traffic police to get ambulances

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: All traffic police sub-divisions in the city will soon get ambulances with advanced medical equipment to offer medical assistance to the public during emergency.

At present, during an emergency or when there is a road accident, the police depend on hospitals to shift patients there.

Within six months, the Police Department will hand over ambulances to traffic sub-divisions to handle trauma cases more efficiently without delay in medical aid, Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said here on Saturday. He was inaugurating a health check-up camp and “Basic Life Support Training Programme” for traffic police personnel, organised by Columbia Asia Hospital at Yeshwanthpur. The city has seven traffic sub-divisions.

The increasing number of accidents in the city has resulted in the city police partnering with hospitals to handle emergency situations effectively. “The city has 21 traffic police stations that come under the seven sub-divisions. All these sub-divisions will get multipurpose ambulances,” Panduranga H. Rane, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West) said.

“Our aim is to provide quality healthcare services. We have taken the initiative to provide basic life support training to the traffic police as they are at the site of accidents most of the time,” Dr. Arvind Kasaragod, Chief of Medical Services, Columbia Asia Hospital, said.
