Yeddyurappa holds out hope to dengue-hit people

Special Correspondent

‘Steps will be taken on a war-footing to provide treatment’

Opposition to be taken into confidence on all important issues

High school, PUC students looking for professional guidance to get help

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Saturday said that the Health and Family Welfare Department would initiate steps on a war-footing to provide treatment to people affected by dengue and chikungunya in several parts of the State.

Speaking to presspersons after a two-day meeting with senior officials at a resort on the outskirts of the city, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that other departments would also come to the help of the people, especially the poor.

Transfers

Counselling system would be gradually introduced in all departments for transfer of staff and it would be transparent. The excess staff would be shifted to other places, where people were required.

He said such interactions would be held with legislators before the coming legislature session.

The Government would take the Opposition into confidence on all important issues, especially those connected to land, water and language.

Action plans

Task forces would be constituted at the district and town levels for discussing development issues. Action plans had been formulated at the district/urban centres and they would be put into action after the monsoon.

Training

High school and PUC students looking for professional guidance would be helped. The number of students from the State getting into IITs was not satisfactory, and facilities would be created for training students.

Special camps would be held for teachers to improve their skills.

Libraries in schools and PU colleges would be improved and they would be opened to the general public after the class hours. This would be implemented in some of the schools from August 15.

Token system

With a view to making police stations people-friendly, the Chief Minister said tokens would be issued to complainants. It would be launched on an experimental basis in some areas, and extended to other stations later. This would avoid delay in registering complaints and filing FIRs. A new beat system would be introduced with the cooperation of the local people, he added.
