Kazan: India defeated Belgium 6-3 in the final of the hockey Champions Challenge for women on Saturday. With this win, the Indian women qualified for next year’s Champions Trophy. Rani Ramphal played a prominent role for India netting four goals, while Saba Anjum and Chachi Devi scored one each. India led 2-0 at half-time. Joy Jouret, Valerie Veermeepsch, and Jill Boon scored for Belgium. Skipper Surinder Kaur was declared the best player of the tournament while Rani Ramphal emerged as the top scorer. The results: India bt Belgium 6-3. 3-4: Ireland bt Ukraine 2-1; 5-6: Belarus bt Canada 2-1; 7-8: Malaysia bt Russia 2-1.
