A total of 291 students receive the prizes Five State toppers receive Rs.25,000 each

Anbazhagan distributing prizes to toppers in Plus Two and Standard X exams at a function organised by the DMK’s youth wing trust in Chennai on Saturday. CHENNAI: The Youth Wing Trust of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Saturday distributed prizes to school toppers in Plus Two and Standard X examinations. Chennai Mayor M. Subramanian said the prizes were distributed as part of the 86th birthday celebrations of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. A total of 291 students, including State toppers and toppers from the district level , received the prizes. Five State toppers in both the classes received Rs.25,000 each; seven students who secured second place received Rs.15,000 each and seven who secured third place received Rs.10,000 each. At the district level, 55 students who stood first received Rs.10,000 each; a total of 87 students who secured second place received Rs.5,000 each and 130 who secured third place received Rs.3,000 each, he said. Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan recalled that when Anna was the Chief Minister, he had asked Mr. Karunanidhi to read more books to improve his knowledge. The Chief Minister had developed the habit already. The prizes were distributed to encourage the students to reach greater heights and achieve their goals, he said. Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said during the party’s Youth Wing Conference held in Tirunelveli two years ago, several resolutions were passed. One of the important resolutions passed at the conference stressed the need for encouraging student toppers by distributing prizes. The Youth Wing of the party started in 1980 had several achievements to its credit. However, the party felt full satisfaction only because of programmes of this kind, Mr. Stalin said.
