TDLP delegation to meet YSR today

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A large delegation of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDLP), comprising over 70 MLAs, MPs and MLCs, will meet Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at noon on Sunday to bring to his notice the harassment meted out to party MLA from Kovvur, T.V. Rama Rao.

Initially, the MLAs had an appointment to meet Dr. Reddy at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday.

However, at the last minute, the Chief Minister is understood to have rescheduled it to Sunday noon, citing time constraints.

Meet convened

When told about the appointment being rescheduled, party president N. Chandrababu Naidu convened a TDLP meeting at the NTR Memorial Trust Bhavan, where Mr. Rama Rao narrated his travails to his colleagues. The meeting lasted over an hour.

Restraint advised

A party source said while the MLAs were all in favour of forcing their way into the Chief Minister’s residence, it is understood that Mr. Naidu advised restraint.

However, the large presence of the media on the busy road outside the Chief Minister’s camp office and a heavy contingent of police forced traffic to slow down to a crawl.

It was only after two hours that the media was told about the TDLP’s decision to meet Dr. Reddy at noon on Sunday.
