HYDERABAD: A 48-year-old woman, Saraswati, was found murdered in her house in Chilakalguda on Saturday night. She and her husband Mrutyunjaya, a grocery store owner, lived on the first floor of their house. The ground floor is rented out to three families. The couple’s son and daughter, both working as software engineers, were away at their workplaces. She used to go to the grocery store located at Chikalguda crossroads daily at 3 p.m. As she did not turn up at the shop even after 5 p.m., her husband sent a worker Laxman to find out where she was. Laxman went up the staircase and saw the woman lying on the floor in the balcony close to the iron grill gate. The bangles she wore were broken and nearly two-and-half-a-inch deep injury was found on her abdomen. No other wounds were found on the body. There were no signs of forcible entry suggesting that the killers could be known persons. Investigators ruled out the possibility of her being killed for gain as the ornaments on her person and the jewellery and other valuable inside the house were intact. Police believe the assailants tried to wipe out some of the blood stains using a sponge but hurriedly left the place. The TV was on. Fresh coconut powder left on a table in the front room led the police to believe that she was grating coconut while watching TV and was murdered minutes later. Tenants on the ground floor and visitors coming to the mosque opposite the house said, they did not see any suspicious characters around.
